Space Ace Doofus - part 2
By Dwayne Anderson

Back in Planet Express, three questions are on the minds of the remainder of the crew. What just happened? Where is Fry? And who is this strange boy in the laboratory that stepped out of a door that just disappeared into thin air?

"This is not happening!" the boy mutters to himself shaking his head. "This is not happening, this is not happening, this is not happening!"

"What's he talking about?" asked Amy looking back at the boy.

"I think he's confused," said Leela.

At the moment, everyone else is reading Fry's resignation letter.

"Dear Planet Express. I can't do this anymore. I've had enough of being an under-appreciated delivery boy. Life for me isn't any different than it was in the twentieth century. So therefore, I'm leaving. But since I'm probably the most inept employee here, I doubt my resignation will affect your reputation and performance as a delivery company. Therefore, there is no reason for me to stay here. Goodbye to everyone, including Zoidberg. Sincerely, Phillip J. Fry."

Everyone is in shock.

"Under-appreciated?" asked Hermes.

"Goodbye?" asked Leela.

"Sincerely?" asked Bender.

They all turn their attention back to the mysterious boy.

"Well this is just great!" he says. "Stuck in an unknown dimension surrounded by strange creatures, some of whom look human."

They all approach him but stop when he steps back. "Stay back!" he says fearfully. "Don't eat me!"

"Eat you?" asked Zoidberg.

"Yes don't!" the boy said. "I taste terrible!"

"The poor boy," said Leela, "he's scared out of his wits!"

"I wish I had a camera with me," said Bender.

Now the boy catches a glimps of the window and a glance of what's outside. In horror he runs to the window and presses himself up against it to get a better look. "Wha...what is this place? Where am I?"

"I'll try to calm him down," said Leela. She steps forward. The boy senses her shadow on his should and turns around.

"Take it easy little guy," she said getting down on one knee. "Nobody is going to hurt you."

The boy stares at her hesitantly, questioning himself if she can be trusted.

"What's your name little boy?" asked Leela as the others approach her from behind.

Finally realizing that he is in no danger from these creatures, the boy speaks. "My name is Willy Duwitt."

"Where are you from?" asked Leela.

"San Francisco, California," said Willy. "What is this place? Where am I? And who are all you...things?"

"The only thing here is Zoidberg!" said Amy.

"I heard that!" said Zoidberg angrily.

"You are in New New York City," said Leela.

"Say what?" asked Willy. "I've heard of New York, but New New York?"

"New York was destroyed by aliens many years ago...several times," said Leela. The ruins are now in the sewers. The year is 3013 and..."

"What?" Willy cries out, interrupting her. "I've gone forward in time?"

"From where in time are you?" asked Leela.

"The twentieth century," said Willy. "1991 to be exact."

"You're from the twentieth century?" asked Leela rising to her feet in shock. "Our friend Fry is also originally from the twentieth century."

"Perhaps the Photon Accelerator took Fry back to the year 1991," said Amy.

"It couldn't have," said Willy. "I used my Photon Accelerator to visit my friends in an alternate dimension, or at least that's where I would be right now instead of right here."

"You have a Photon Accelerator too?" asked Hermes. "Who built it?"

"I did," said Willy.

"You?" everyone exclaims in shock.

"What are you, some child prodigy?" asked Farnsworth?

"Well," said Willy, "it was all part of a science project. It turns out my friends also had a Photon Accelerator in their world and when I first used mine, it took me there."

"Well that solves one problem," said Amy.

"Actually, that leaves another unanswered question," said Leela. "Where's Fry?"

Meanwhile at that moment, Fry is slammed up against one of the red metal walls by a humanoid baboon as a three armed duck wearing an eye patch holds a blaster on him. "What have you done with our friend?" he demanded. "Answer me! I've got a blaster and I'm not afraid to use it!"

They had come in here just a mere second after he and the humanoid cat reacted in surprise to each other's presence. She had stepped off the ladder by now and was still staring at Fry with a puzzled look on her face. At her side is a small robot half her height with a silver body and a single large eye for a head.

The baboon's first reaction was to seize him and restrain him against a wall. The duck had pulled out a blaster and was now aiming it at Fry. This was not the kind of greeting Fry had hoped to have. He had been here for barely two minutes and look at the situation he was in.

"Well this is a fine mess I've gotten myself into," he says to himself.

"Take it easy Deadeye," the cat creature said, "I think he's just as confused by us as we are by him."

"No excuse Jenny!" said Deadeye. "He's an intruder and he's obviously done something with Willy!"

Who is this Willy? Fry wanted to ask. Is he a friend of theirs? Another member of this strange crew?

"No please!" Fry protested. "I don't know what you're talking about! In the words of a character from Hogan's Heroes, 'I know nothing'!"

"What's going on in here?" a new voice commanded.

Everyone turns their heads around. Fry looks ahead to see a humanoid green rabbit about a meter in height approach. The rabbit is dressed in a red uniform with yellow gloves and boots. Goggles dress his ears.

"Captain, we found this intruder on board our ship," the baboon said. "And we believe he has done something to Willy!"

"Captain?" Fry asked himself. "This is the captain of this ship?"

"Let him go Bruiser," said the rabbit.

"Bruiser?" asked Fry as the baboon released him. "The name suits him perfectly." He dusts himself off and rubs his shoulders where the baboon pinned him to the wall.

"Captain," the robot said, "our unknown guest is a human, just like Willy!"

"I can see that Blinky," said the rabbit. "This one looks much taller than Willy."

"Great!" said Fry slapping himself in the forehead. "A rabbit, a cat, a baboon, and a duck. What is this? An intergalactic petting zoo?"

The rabbit stands before him several feet away. "You're a couple carrots short of a full sack aren't you?"

"Is that supposed to mean something?" asked Fry arching his eyebrows.

"Correction," the rabbit said eying the others with uncertainty. "Make that more than a couple!"

"Would someone please explain what's going on and where I am?" asked Fry.

"I'll ask the questions here," said the rabbit. "Who are you and what are you doing on board the Righteous Indignation?"

"The what?" asked Fry.

"It is the name of our ship. You are speaking to captain Bucky o Hare, hailing from the planet Warren."

"Not to mention the greatest hero here in the Aniverse!" said Deadeye.

"Hero?" asked Fry. He frowns and folds his arms across his chest. "Well this is just perfect! I've been here only two minutes and already I'm basking in the glory of another space hero!"

"Hey!" snarled Bruiser jabbing a large finger into his ribs, "show some respect for our captain!"

"Well excuse me!" said Fry shoving his finger away and rubbing his ribs. "Way to make me feel self-concious Mr. Hare!"

"Answer the question," said Bucky crossing his arms over his chest. "Who are you and what are you doing on board my ship?"

"My name is Phillip J. Fry," said Fry. "Though my friends and enemies call me Fry."

"Now answer my other question," said Bucky. "Why are you here?"

"That's what I'd like to know," said Fry with a shrug. "But I think it may have had something to do with the professor's Photon Accelerator."

"Yes!" said Blinky. "Photon Accelerator! That's it!"

"Come again?" asked Fry.

"We also have a Photon Accelerator on board our ship," said Blinky coming forward. "Willy also has a Photon Accelerator. He must have activated his the moment you did. This created a rift between your universe and his. Which means you are here and Willy is where you're from."

Fry blinks in surprise.

"You don't understand what I'm saying do you?" asked Blinky.

Fry shrugs. "Not really no."

"Oh brother!" Bucky slaps himself in the forehead. "I think the sack was already empty to begin with."

"What are we going to do with him captain?" asked Jenny.

"He seems harmless enough," said Bucky. "However, there are many questions left unanswered as to exactly who he is and what his intentions are." He faces Fry. "I don't know exactly what you are doing here, but I intend to find out. Because we do not believe you to be our enemy, we do not need to resort to force to get our answers."

He addresses the rest of the crew. "Back to your stations crew. First Mate Jenny, I'll leave you in charge of our guest."

Fry looks at the humanoid cat, the first creature he met in this world, salute her captain. "Aye captain."
